Kanyon Vs Gohan Part One: The Beginning
-------
Standing outside, Gohan stared off at the horizon, his brows slightly furrowed, his mind deep in thought and his hands dug into the pockets of his black training gi. Everything was rather quiet around him except for the faintest breeze whistling past his ears and the rustling of the grass around his ankles. He wasn't sure how long he had been waiting exactly, but some time had passed when a figure appeared beside him. Turning his gaze upon him, Gohan took in his appearance: a black body suit and white boots. Simple.
"Gohan," Kanyon said as he tightened a set of white gloves that accompanied the attire and shared its simplicity, the voice bringing Gohan's attention to the man's face. "You wished to spar with me?"
Taking a few steps back, noticing the other studying him with impassive eyes, the teen nodded his head and flicked some bangs out of his face while watching Kanyon closely. Already he could feel a sense of nerves and adrenaline picking up inside the core of his body. But there was excitement too. It had been so long since he had last had a good spar with anybody.
"Yeah," he answered finally, noticing the other still with the impassive gaze in his glacier blue eyes. And it made Gohan wonder if the other was always this calm with his spars. That, in turn, made him wonder if the calmness reflected the man's confidence.
Gohan was never that confident.
"Where do you wish to fight?" Kanyon asked him as he folded his arms over his chest and coiled his tail around his waist, harmless actions that reminded Gohan rather strongly of Vegeta. And such memories always wrenched at his gut so he forced himself to push those away and remain focused.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he shrugged his shoulders, his hands still remaining inside of his pockets. "Anywhere is fine with me, unless you have a specific preference?" he inquired as he scanned the area around him.
"Wherever would be best for you," Kanyon replied to him. "Otherwise I don't care."
Gohan stared at him for a few brief moments before nodding his head, already in the process of turning his body. "Alright, follow me." Then he flicked his tail, walked a few paces ahead and kicked off into the air, gathering energy around his body and blasting off through the sky. He occasionally looked behind him to see Kanyon following him. The older Saiyajin flew with his eyes closed and his arms crossed over his chest as the white energy flicked around his body, once again expressing that completely calm aura that, the more Gohan thought about it, the more it made him slightly nervous.
He led Kanyon to a dry, mountainous terrain where there would be no one around for miles. He didn't want to risk any injuries of bystanders nor did he wish to be watched by curious spectators. This was something he wanted to do for himself, a stress reliever of sorts. Touching down to his feet, the dirt crunched slightly under his weight as the hot, thick, dusty hair blew around him, loosening a few strands of his hair. He turned his head in time to see Kanyon land atop a large pillar, his arms dropping from around his chest as he stared down at Gohan.
Gohan in turned stared up at him, the breeze blowing past both of them and then silencing, as if it too was anticipating what was about to go down. Gohan's tail slightly swayed back and forth behind his feet as he waited for further instruction from the other.
"I've been looking forward to this, Son Gohan," Kanyon finally spoke, and Gohan blinked in response before furrowing his brows just slightly. Did that mean Kanyon expected something from Gohan? From what the demi-Saiyajin had heard, the one above him was far more powerful than any Saiyajin he'd ever encountered in his life time. Surely someone such as himself would be an easy defeat.
But then he remembered something Kanyon had told him once. "To assume defeat means you have already lost." So Gohan pushed all thoughts about winning or losing from his mind. It wasn't about winning anyway. No, Gohan did not care if he won or lost, he just wanted to fight.
So, with that all settled in his mind, Gohan slid his feet across the ground, taking on his fighting stance as he waited for the battle to begin. "Then I hope I won't disappoint."
"We shall have to see, I suppose," was Kanyon's mere response, not making any movement to begin. Instead, he turned his focus to the side and spoke again. "Go ahead and ascend, then we'll start."
Gohan blinked a few times before nodding to himself, not at all surprised by the instruction. He lowered his gaze to the ground as he clenched his fists and narrowed his eyes, concentrating on pulling energy from the core of his body and pushing it outwards as it started to become visible around him. He could feel the ground beneath him start to tremble a little as his power continued to rise. Pressing his lips together, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath and then forced the energy outwards, causing an explosion of power the resulted in dirt and rock being propelled away from him and a few cracks forming in the ground under his feet. His hair then proceeded to flash gold, along with his tail, and when he snapped his eyes open they were now a bright emerald green rather than their normal black.
The teenager panted a little, it having been harder than usual to bring forth this much energy, considering his currently weakened state. However, he looked back up at Kanyon, eyes still narrowed as his golden tail lashed back and forth behind him.
Kanyon had been watching his ascension but his facial expression betrayed no definitive emotion save for a bit of thoughtfulness. And it only led Gohan to wonder exactly what those thoughts were. "Alright," he said as his feet slid apart, now completely facing Gohan, dust rising into the air and being picked up by the wind. One of his arms bent at his side, the fingers remaining open, his right arm going back slightly, bending in a wide arc, fist closed, his side now facing him after completing the stance, still giving Gohan that unnerving gaze. Yet, there was a look of complete seriousness upon his face. That in turn led Gohan to believe that Kanyon was taking both him and this fight seriously.
That was both encouraging and frightening.
"I shall try not to disappoint either, Son Gohan," Kanyon spoke and Gohan focused his attention on him once again, forcing his thoughts to clear out of his mind. The air was still around them as the white aura exploded around Kanyon once again, the man's black hair waving about wildly, the white energy like flames licking at the Saiyajin's body as the ancient pillar breaking apart. Gohan watched as chunks of boulder broke apart in mid-air from the mere force of the power that Kanyon was exerting. Each thud from rock that hit the ground mirrored a thud of his heart, feeling the adrenaline already rising.
"After you."
Once he was given that go-ahead by Kanyon, Gohan's fingers twitched a bit at his side before he curled it into a fist and started running at the other. Then he disappeared and reappeared in front of the other Saiyajin, his arm already drawn back, gathering a large amount of power behind those closed fingers as he hurled it at Kanyon's face.

I've missed your writing. You were one of the authors who kept me writing and without your fics to inspire me I've been completely unmotivated.
Nice style and flow, as usual! Looking forward to the next part.
